Ian McFarlane

Ian McFarlane is an experienced young professional from Green Valley California. He began riding with his parents Gry and Duncan McFarlane at a young age, taking advantage of their family stable. During this time, Ian was able to learn the basics of showjumping and stable management from working at his parents’ training business.

During the WEF circuit of 2017, Ian was mentored by Andrew Ramsay at Shalanno Farms along with George Morris. Following the winter season, Ian rode for both Andrew and Chris Kappler based in Hunterdon, New Jersey and Wellington, Florida. While working on the East Coast Ian learned many important lessons about the showjumping sport and business.

In the summer of 2018, Ian moved to The Netherlands still working for Andrew Ramsay. After getting a taste of the European shows and lifestyle, a job at a boutique horse dealing stable became available. Ian spent the next year and a half working for Bosch Sporthorses in The Netherlands. This was a perfect opportunity to gain show experience and to make good relationships with European contacts. Ian attended FEI 2* shows regularly as well as many local national competitions in The Netherlands and Belgium during his time working in Europe. He was able to learn the ropes of sourcing and producing horses to be marketable in the USA.

Now 23 years old, Ian has returned to his family farm in Northern California. With years of experience under his belt, producing and selling high quality horses has become his primary goal.
